Naked Blackpool
If you agree with the following points, please contact us to add your names to the growing list of individuals, groups and organisations featured here, in preparation for an approach to the local council. Blackpool doesn't currently have an officially recognised Naturist beach, however there is an area of beach that is currently used and quiet enough to allow us to participate in this lifestyle choice without causing offence to others. The sand dunes, running between Blackpool South (Starr Gate) and Lytham St Annes are mainly used by those residents who wish to walk their dogs during the day, kite flying enthusiasts and occasional horse riders. As Naturists we feel this area of the beach, away from the crowds and attractions of Blackpool's main sea front, is an ideal area for naturism.

At the moment this would be un-official, but perfectly legal, as it's everyones right to be naked in a public place as long as it isn't to cause offence to others. We would like to see Blackpool and Lytham St Annes Councils officially recognise the area as a naturist beach, and erect signs at either end, plus access points along the rear of the dunes, thereby reducing the "surprise" factor to those wandering into the area without prior knowledge of its existance.

The local council appear to believe that Blackpool should concentrate on those seeking a quiet, conservative resort, with millions of pounds being spent on conference and leisure facilities, improving the Promenade with statues and light shows, and of course trying desperately to get their hands on the casino. We believe this will all help Blackpools regeneration, however we also believe in this day and age Blackpool needs to consider other options, of which the naturist community should form a part. We therefore seek to make this area of beach open and publicly accepted as a designated Naturist Beach. Most of Blackpools beach is covered by water at high tide, has a public walkway along it in the shape of the Promenade, and has hotels and other attractions overlooking the beach along its length. Unlike the Naturist Beach at Brighton, we do not seek to force our lifestyle choice on others by asking for such a public area, and would preffer to remain remote from the holiday crowds.

The area proposed is an area of sea frontage, running between Starr Gate and Lytham St Annes, that is an area of sand dunes as opposed to flat beach further north. There are no buildings overlooking it, and the dunes themselves provide a barrier from the road running behind along its length. There is one new building development in the middle of the area, but it would be proposed that this immediate area is avoided. Car parking is available at both ends of the dunes section, at Starr Gate and at the Lytham Coast Guard Station. The more popular area at the moment is towards the Lytham end, please see the map page.

Please note, its not illegal to be naked on the beach. It only becomes illegal if its causes offence and you do nothing about it. Therefore if anyone approaches you and says you need to stop, please remain well mannered and cover up immediately, then wait for that person to leave the area. Once gone you are free to resume your sunbathing. Our aim of getting the beach designated will remove this small obstacle, however please do use the area shown on the maps when ever you can .
